Colleen Ballinger Accused of Wearing Blackface
The backlash towards embattled YouTube star Colleen Ballinger continues to grow as she now faces accusations of racism.
Best known for her popular online persona, Miranda Sings, Ballinger was recently accused of grooming her underage fans. Her alleged actions include sending lingerie to one male fan (who was 13-years-old at the time), and directing sexually inappropriate comments and questions towards other young fans in a private group chat.
Now, the 36-year-old is in hot water again following the re-emergence of one of her old videos, in which she is seen in what appears to be blackface.
The video – which was reportedly uploaded to her YouTube channel in 2018 and resurfaced on Wednesday, 5 July – shows Ballinger impersonating Beyonce while performing the singer’s hit song, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”. Her face is noticeably smeared in dark paint.
The majority of reactions on social media has been negative, with many labelling the video – specifically, the use of blackface – as “disgusting”, “disturbing” and “not acceptable”.
Ballinger has yet to comment on the latest allegations, although she has denied the claims of grooming.
